She holds a degree in Biotechnology and a Master’s in Food Biotechnology from the University of Oviedo (Asturias, Spain), where she is currently in the second year of her PhD studies. Her doctoral research focuses on the detection and removal of microplastics present in water and organic waste, with an emphasis on the potential of biological treatments involving bacteria and fungi to degrade or eliminate microplastics from these environments. As part of her PhD project, she is currently undertaking a short-term research stay at the Politecnico di Milano, where she is expanding her work by investigating methods for the quantification and characterization of microplastics in compost and digestate obtained from different anaerobic digestion plants.
