New Article on Scoping the life cycle assessment of Fine Future flotation technology

A new article is now available on the development of a prospective LCA on FineFuture flotation technology which is a novel technology being developed to help mining industry recover valuable minerals from very fine particles which are currently being discarded as waste. The project is being carried out under European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. For more information about the project, check the following link:

https://finefuture-h2020.eu/

The article focuses on the scope definition phase of two industrial case studies within FineFuture project. The two industrial partners are Eramet for manganese concentrate production, and Grecian Magnesite for magnesia and magnesite concentrate production.

Performing LCA for an emerging technology like FineFuture can provide better interpretation of the potential environmental impacts of the technology under development even at early Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs). The recommendations concluded from such study can significantly and more effectively help mitigate potential adverse environmental impacts of the technology before it is available on industrial scale as it can provide early guidance to the developers of the technology.

The article is open access and can be viewed and downloaded via the link:

Sustainable waste management- towards sustainable humanitarian logistics.

We would like to invite you to an online event organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) under the title “The Analysis & Evidence Week 2021 – Data, data, data… but then what?” in which the results of our recent collaboration with the committee concerning garage waste management in humanitarian context will be presented by our research partner from Coventry university Dr. Hossein Zarei.

This is a public event that brings together humanitarian actors, the private sector, academia and beyond to discuss opportunities and challenges of data policies, methodologies and usage, while ensuring the analytical work is actionable and practices remain people-centered. Dr Hossein Zarei is holding a technical session on Monday 29th at 12:00 “Data to inform decision making for sustainable humanitarian logistics”, where he presents the results of the research project “Waste management at ICRC” conducted by Coventry University, Politecnico di Milano, and ICRC.

You can find the agenda and register for the event in the following link.
